School Council - Pupil Voice

At The Grange, we believe that responsibility empowers children and young people. Our children tell us that it’s a good thing to get involved in decision making and school improvement because:

  • they feel listened to;

  • they know that what they say counts;

  • they gain important skills such as listening to others, putting their ideas across and working in a team;

  • they get on better with adults;

  • they see results;

  • …. and because it’s fun!

At The Grange, we give our children every opportunity to make a difference. In turn we can see the difference in their attitude to school, to learning, to their teachers and their peers.

Our School Council is a group of pupils who have been elected by their fellow pupils to represent their opinions and raise issues with our headteacher and governors of The Grange. The school council also takes forward projects on behalf of the pupils, and is involved in planning and things like the School Improvement Plan, governing body meetings and interviewing staff.

The School Council’s objectives are to:

  • Represent all pupils and include as many people as possible

  • Take time to listen to all pupils and communicate their views

  • Feed back to pupils about what happened about their views

  • Make things happen – or explain why they can’t!
